Millthorpe
A visit to Millthorpe is like a trip back to the turn of the century with its historic shop fronts, hotels, workers' cottages, bluestone churches, well-to-do town homes and spacious country homesteads. Millthorpe is a living museum which also boasts the region's finest historic display, the Golden Memories Museum, where you can find out how people lived in the late 1800's.
This museum is a must for all visitors to Blayney Shire. There are more than 5000 items on display and each one has a story to tell. There are special displays and within the museum grounds is a craft cottage. The museum is open every weekend from 2pm to 5pm (4pm in winter) and school and public holidays from 10am to 5pm (4pm in winter).
It is worthwhile taking a walk around the village, looking at the buildings and calling in at the restaurants, coffee shops, craft outlets, hotels and studios. You can obtain tourist information at The Old Mill Cafe in Pym Street where you can also see local art on display.
Millthorpe has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity among locals and visitors in recent years and a number of new establishments have been set up serving quality local food and selling art and crafts.
A short drive to the west, along a picturesque road is the hamlet of Forest Reefs, once a thriving gold mining settlement with six hotels, a butcher's shop and two grocery stores but now an historic centre with several old churches and buildings as well as the popular Forest Reefs Tavern.
